Started in a solid 18Knot SW Breeze Abating to 15Kn Southerly

Temperature 13 degrees

11 Boats [8 IOM’s 3 A class] – Peter Hendy out with rudder servo issues

We welcomed a new sailor to our club, John Gratton had a couple of good races and placed very well (he probably would have given everyone a shakeup at the top if he had made the ranking race)

11 Scored races were completed

The Racing was really great to watch, several close finishes were witnessed and it was great to see the different classes mixing it right up to the line.

Eventually Chris Jutner came to the top step of the podium with is IOM many of the races came down to who managed to execute a clean tack 10m from the finish line.

Quite spectacular seeing two or three IOMs tacking in sync with an A class!

There were a few worrisome incidents on the water between A class boats and IOMs, where boats became pinned under water!

We ask the skippers to please learn from these incidents and prevent them! 14Kg Displacement Boats vs 4Kg – is messy! Also skippers need to have an understanding of some classes limitations and plan accordingly.

Please be aware of this when in close proximity. Rules mean nothing if you or your fellow competitor is picking up a sunk boat, this is not acceptable!

There is also way too much coming in on the Port, on the Layline at a top mark and barging in! This behaviour is dangerous and not very sporting, then not doing or arguing about a penalty when called is really poor on the skippers behalf!

We don’t want club members to be hesitant about sailing because they are in fear of getting their boat broken!

Started in a solid 15Knot Southerly Breeze Abating to 10Kn SW

8 Boats [5 DF95 and 3 DF65] – Leigh Richardson and Anthony Wilson out with boom vang and winch failure

Anthony a new member going through the paperwork process now

10 Scored races complete

The DF racing got of to a flying Start with DF95s going strong out of the blocks

Chris Jutner kept them honest with the sole remaining DF65, eventually it become a two horse race with John More (DF95) and Chris (DF65) duking-it-out for the top step

Eventually John More kicked Chris of the top step and called it his own, with a well deserved win!

The back half of the score card had its own challenges with a 4 way countback: Norm, Jeff, Mike and Johan all on 24 points

Our only observation was there were a few mark infringements made that penalties were not taken for: if a part of the boat or her equipment touches the mark a penalty should be taken.

So please if you have still have rounded the mark correctly and have struck the mark, don’t wait for a call!.  Pull off the race course and do your penalty and feel good about doing the right thing!
