IOM Club Championships

Heat 4

While cold (17deg) the wind held Northerly for the day. The day started with winds 5 to 15K ending up at 1.00pm about 15 to 30k necessitating a change to B suits just before lunch.
Tim sailed well all day to take out the days event with Alan a good second although Jeff threw down the gauntlet a few times until he had to retire after trying to wash out the inside of his boat (not good for electricals Jeff).
Unfortunately it was not John's day and he could not get going although there were signs of promise from time to time.

Heat 3

The day was clear (but cold) with reasonably light (and variable) wind which challenged the skippers.
Tim ran out a clear winner with great sailing despite a battery fade and Jeff Watson giving him a hurry up (until having to withdraw with electrical problems). These problems allowed John Inverarity to slip past Jeff and take second place from him.
The last 3 places were covered by only 3 points showing a sting in the tail and competition there.
Thanks to Alan Gold for being PRO on the day and congratulations to all skippers for their conduct.

Heat 2

There was a great turnout with 9 skippers racing and with a terrific day to sail (although another Knot or so probably would not have hurt) a very enjoyable day was had by all.
Despite a valiant effort by Tim he was pipped at the post by Ben our Southern member with only 2 points in it.
The middle of the pack were quite  close with only 7 points covering them.
Despite being in with the wolves our newest member Frank acquitted himself quite well and enjoyed the calmer conditions after his baptism in a bumpy last Sunday.
Thanks to Bill Neubauer for being PRO on the day

Heat 4

The day began with winds wafting s to sw at 7 to 8 Kph shifting to a sw to ssw rising to 20 to 25 Kph about lunch time. Very pleasant conditions which eventually saw a couple of B rigs raised.
The day belonged to Alan Gold who has raised the bar with his new boat and only the second time in the water. Tim Arland tried hard all day with consistent sailing but was unable to head Alan. Ian Dowsett was a good third while sailing his dual rated RM.
Thank you to Brian Purvis for being PRO on the day and to Daryl Bampton for his assistance.

Heat 3

While the day was a one of generally light winds (did die off in the last race) the sun was mostly out and a good day's sailing was enjoyed by all.
The day was won by Brian Purvis who once again will have his name on his own trophy. He did not have it all his own way as Alan Gold (sailing an RM with 10R sails) gave him plenty of competition in the light conditions and ensured that Brian wasn't going to get the Trophy easily.
Ian Backler had the boat speed to give both these two a hurry-up however the light wind conditions caused him some anxiety. John Inverarity only had his RM with RM sails however he joined in the fray and had a couple of chances. Thanks John.
Our PRO on the day was Tim Arland and he did an excellent job of it although having 4 gentlemen to Pro for may have made his job easier. Thanks Tim.
Thanks also to Kevin Bowden for assisting Tim and to Brian Walsh for putting the Course Board and Buoys out and then away at the end of the days sailing.

Heat 2

Results were extremely close with Brian Purvis coming out the victor. Unfortunately for Tim Arland he scored a DNS with winch problems for the first 2 races however was able to drop these at the end of the day.  Ian Dowsett sailed consistently all day with his RM with 10R sails However he changed to his RM sails after lunch thinking that the wind strength was increasing. He surprised everyone during the last 4 races after lunch and sailed well to end up with 2 first places.
The result was that they both ended up with 20 points after drops and it took the count-back to third placings to separate them.
Thanks to Brian Walsh for acting as PRO replacing our scheduled PRO.

Heat 1

Well what an excellent day for sailing. Sunshine, not too hot, good consistent breeze. Held direction all morning and only changed while we were having lunch.
Only a few skippers had problems with Arthur having terminal rudder trouble. Brian Purvis damaged his boat in an unavoidable collision with Alan Gold however with a cover of duct tape he was able to continue and finish all races and coming First. Tim Arland sailed well for Second but was unable to catch Brian P however he assures me that he will continue trying.
With some good sailing Alan Gold stayed ahead of the rest to come in Third.
All 8 skippers behaved in an exemplary manner and any disputes were settled quickly and amicably. Well done.
Thanks to John Inverarity for being PRO on the day. Well done John.

Marblehead Club Championship

Heat 4

Congratulations to Tim Arland in winning todays event and becoming the Dawson Trophy holder for 2015. Alan Gold and Brian Purvis hotly contested second place with Brian eventually edging Alan out for the position. Thank you to all competitors who sailed as this was the best fleet that we have had for some time and such a good sailing day to do it on.
The weather was fine, quite warm with winds at the beginning of the day a little unsure of which direction to come from but then settling in to a good South Westerly.
A welcome was extended to Grant Murray a visitor from the Paris Creek SEHMYC club. We trust that you enjoyed your sail with us Grant.

RM Interclub Practice

Thank you the ARCYRC and SMYRC members who braved the cold.
There was no rain but it was b..... cold but everyone persevered and a good days sailing was had. An exception was Brett who, unfortunately, suffered damage in the second race and was forced to withdraw for the day.
Sailor of the day was Paul Littledyke who sailed consistently all day and ran out the winner. A creditable second was Alan Gold (despite opposition from Tim Arland 3rd). Malcolm Cockshell sailed well and nearly pipped Tim missing out by only 3 points.
Thanks to Brian Walsh for being PRO on the day. Well done.

Unfortunately damage resulted in 2 skippers retiring before the races ended however this did not detract from the close racing of those remaining.
Despite the day being mostly overcast and (as usual lately there were some holes out there) everyone had a good day.
Thank you to Trevor and assistant Cyril O'Neill (keeps them on their toes he does) for their RO duties and to all skippers for their sportsmanship during the day.

P Rutger's Trophy

Heat 4

Heat 3

The start was delayed for about 30 mins due to extremely light winds (there wasn't any). The first race was a drifter and saw the field spread out over a long distance (not very good for handicapping). The wind in second race increased slightly and then steadily icreased until about 12.00pm remaining steady until stumps were called at the 11th race when the wind faded again.
The day went to Alan Gold who sailed steadily all day with his new A boat. Unfortunately Tim Arland won the first race and due to the light winds was unable to overcome his handicaps although there were few times when he showed Alan some competition.
Kevin Bowden showed everyone a clean pair of heels early however the handicapping caught up with him in the end.
Overall points were close as only 8 points separted the first 5 places.
Thanks to all the skippers for their well mannered sailing and a speccial thanks to Jeff Watson for being PRO on the day. What a pleasant day!

 Heat 2

The day was generally sunny although the morning winds were variable and there were a couple of slow races to start off eventually the wind picked up enough to allow a better competition to take place.
As is common the wind died just as we went to lunch however it then picked up and good racing was held for the rest of the event (it did die shortly after we finished).
While most of the skippers had a fairly uneventful day (except for hit and missed marks) Tim unfortunately encountered winch troubles during the second race and had to replace his winch (quick trip home). Unfortunately this put him well behind the others when he restarted and he was unable to make up much ground.

We welcomed Tim Arland to membership of the club and to his first competitive event here.
The day was cool with generally Southerly winds varying from about 8 th 20 Kph (gusts) and everyone was able to stay with their A rigs. Unfortunately 2 of the competitors had to withdraw during the day however this did not lower the intensity of the competition.
Unfortunately due to the V8's, holidays etc our numbers were down to 5 competitors. This however did not lower the enthusiasm of those competing.
Thanks to Jeff Watson  for PRO'ing the event as you can see by the closeness of the points of the top 3.
